Anna Hazare, India’s high-profile anti-corruption activist, called off his latest fast in Mumbai, saying he’ll pick it up again Friday in New Delhi, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
It comes as doctors warned Hazare, who is 74 years old, of kidney failure. He was already showing signs of dehydration, his heart sounds were “distant,” and he is running a higher-than-normal temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit, according to an earlier report.
“I have seen the current picture and I have decided to end the fast today,” Hazare said Wednesday at a press conference in Mumbai. “There is only one road to take and I have decided to protest in the five poll bound states [Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Manipur, Goa] instead of continuing my fast here.”
